Parts that come with the Mileage Keeper:
- AC Adapter / Power Supply 12vdc @ 100ma, Center contact is Ground, outside is +12vdc. Radio Shack part # 273-1662 is replacement part.
- 12 Foot Cable. 4 wire flat phone cable with RJ11 connector
- Instruction Manual
The Mileage Keeper connects to the vehicle through the cable. This cable has 4 wires.
BLACK wire (Pin 1 of the connector) connects to a good Ground. This is the connection to the negative side of the battery in the vehicle.
RED wire (Pin 2 of the connector) should be connected to the ignition side of +12 VDC. (This means that the IGNITION KEY must be ON to have +12 V DC on the RED wire). The Mileage Keeper has an internal protection device so no fuse is necessary.
GREEN wire (Pin 3 of the connector) needs to be connected to the Speedometer Sending Unit for a signal that pulses this wire. This is available on most late model vehicles. If your vehicle does not have an electronic speedometer, then a sending unit can be installed in your speedometer cable. (see Note).
- ( Note: If you do not know where the speedometer wire is we suggest you find a business that installs Cruise Controls for autos and have them install the Mileage Keeper.) If you want to do it yourself, information on the correct wire can be found at www.rostra.com.(Check the VSS and Tach connection)
YELLOW wire (Pin 4 of the connector) is used to tell the Mileage Keeper which vehicle (maximum of 2) it is connected to. Connect the YELLOW wire to Ground in Vehicle #2. Do not connect the YELLOW wire on Vehicle #1 or on the Survey Counter.
